Second Saturday
Founded in 2010 as a means to grow the action shooting sport in the Tidewater region, this series has grown and developed a loyal following. Designed to be inviting to shooters new to competition but challenging enough to make experienced shooters work for the win, we have found a balance that keeps people coming back and bringing their friends.
What do you need to compete/have fun? A reliable handgun that you are comfortable with, a holster that allows for movement while keeping the pistol secure and accessible, a couple of spare magazines and a means to carry them, hearing and eye protection, and a good attitude and desire to have fun. The match can usually be shot in about 100 rounds.
How do I sign up and which category do I shoot in? To sign up, follow the link to PractiScore and follow the prompts. When you sign the waiver you'll be given the address to the match. Categories: if you carry a gun for a living or have done so in the last three years or if you are a Master Class IPSC/IDPA/USPSA shooter you are in the Tactical group. If that doesn't describe you, you shoot in the Non-Tactical group. If you were born a female human being on planet Earth, you shoot in the Shieldmaids group, unless you qualify for Tactical.
What to expect. Muster/check in is at 0915. Range brief at 0930 and first shots at 1000. We run five stages one of which is the same every match through the season. This is an accuracy driven stage without much physicality so that you can track your progress during the season. One stage is set just to be fun and a little challenging. The other three stages are a mix of accuracy, movement, balance and problem solving. Most people get the heart rate and respiration up during these stages.
The Cardinal Rules of Safety are in effect and we run a cold range ( unloaded weapons between stages) but it's as serious or fun as you make in.
